Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is in hot water after being arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegations of massive county fund embezzlement. His lawyers claim they’ve been blocked from accessing him at EACC HQ in Nairobi, where he’s currently being held.
“They’ve locked in our client and denied legal counsel,” said lawyer Ndegwa Njiru.
🔍 According to EACC, the governor is being investigated for:
- Procurement fraud
- Bribery
- Abuse of office
- Fraudulent tender awards through proxies
📌 The probe targets projects worth over Ksh. 1.4 billion across three key county developments:
- Kenyatta Stadium Rehabilitation (Phase 1A)
- Construction of County HQs
- Tom Mboya Hospital Project
EACC officers also conducted search raids at homes and offices of key suspects, including Natembeya’s residence in Kitale.
🗣️ DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa has condemned the move, calling it political harassment aimed at silencing opposition figures — linking it to similar arrests of Rigathi Gachagua and Peter Salasya.
“We will not allow weaponization of the justice system,” Wamalwa declared.
